New Xerox and Bourg Acquisition Boosts Performance

Multi-Product Acquisition Boosts Processes, Performance and Quality at Daily Printing

A Xerox iGen 150 Press with EFI Fiery Print Server and Bourg BMEx Booklet Maker will enable growth and boost productivity at employee-owned firm.

A recent multi-product acquisition by leading print and marketing services provider Daily Printing has streamlined its production, Web storefront, short-run booklet making and financial processes, while improving output quality. The acquisitions—a Xerox® iGen® 150 Digital Press with a Xerox EX 150 Print Server Powered by Fiery® and a Bourg BMEx Booklet Maker—became operational in late June and are expected to enable growth, provide new opportunities for customers, and save time and money.

“This is not just a box upgrade. It’s a major process, performance and output quality upgrade that will give our business a significant boost,” said Tom Moe, president, Daily Printing. Why the Xerox iGen? “The quality, speed and our relationship with Xerox is such that we didn’t look at anything else,” Moe said, adding that he and his team did due diligence to support two previous iGen acquisitions and have kept up with competitive digital press advancements.

The iGen 150 replaces Daily Printing’s two aging iGen presses and delivers enhanced image quality via higher 2400-by-2400 dots-per-inch print resolution with multiple line screens for improved detail, fine lines, small text and overall image quality Matte Dry Ink delivers an appearance more like that of an offset press, as many customers prefer. It is supported by advanced automated color management capabilities that help ensure excellent color quality and consistency, and automated press setup and operation that enable industry-leading press availability.

The iGen 150’s EFI Fiery print server also contributes to the press’s excellent color image quality and provides a clean integration with the shop’s new EFI Pace Print MIS system and its EFI Digital StoreFront to deliver new levels of automation and productivity. For example, the newly integrated systems will reduce the number of human touches required for job entry, provide more actionable information on job tickets, and enable two-way communications about job status between the press and the MIS system. The Daily Printing team also is employing Xerox FreeFlow Process Manager to automate some steps in the billing process that had previously been performed manually.

The Bourg booklet maker supplements the shop’s bindery to address growing demand for producing small quantities of books and booklets ordered over the Internet. Moe estimates its on-demand capabilities will cut as much as a day-and-a-half out of short-run booklet production time.

Daily Printing has been a Xerox customer since 2006, uses XMPie and Xerox FreeFlow® Variable Information Suite software for variable-data printing, and is a member of the Xerox Premier Partners Global Network of leading print providers. The firm also has used Xerox ProfitAccelerator® Business Development Resources and consultants for help in targeting vertical markets, developing its variable-data printing capability, and staging customer events—including a recent customer seminar on marketing trends.
